Almost every year thousands of unmarried boys are recruited as sailors in the Indian Navy through the Artificer Apprentice (AA) entry scheme and the Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR) entry scheme.
Educational Qualification: (1) Artificer Apprentice – Centre Senior Secondary or equivalent boys with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry / Biology / Computer Science subjects with 60 percent or more marks from any board recognized by the State Government are eligible to apply. 500 vacancies. (2) Senior Secondary Recruits- Boys with higher secondary or equivalent pass in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry / Biology / Computer Science from any board recognized by the Central / State Government can apply.
Age: Age criteria is given after publication of notification. Physical Requirements: Height should be at least 157 cm, with appropriate weight. The chest should expand up to 5 cm. Vision should be 6/6 in good eye without glasses, 6/9 in bad eye and 6/6 in good eye with glasses, 6/6 in bad eye. Broken knees, flat feet, varicose veins, canker sores or any other physical defect cannot apply.
Salary: A monthly stipend of Tk 14,600 will be available during training. After successful completion of training will be employed as ‘Sailor’. Then the basic salary will be Tk 21,700 to Tk 69,100, MSP Tk 5,200 and other allowances. May be promoted up to the post of Master Chief Petty Officer-One, then basic pay will be Rs.47,600 to Rs.1,51,100, MSP Rs.5,200 and other allowances. Online through www.joinindiannavy.gov.in website. Candidate Selection Process: Based on the application shortlisted candidates are selected through written test, physical ability test and medical examination. There will be a written test of 100 marks of 1 hour duration in these four subjects – English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge.
Questions will be objective type of higher secondary standard. You will be successful if you get qualifying marks in each subject separately and in total. Physical ability test will be conducted on the day of written test. Physical fitness test will consist of 1.6 km run in 7 minutes, 20 sit-ups and 10 push-ups. Candidates who pass written test and physical fitness test are then called for medical test.
